DOCTORATE DEGREE

As described in the Regular Notice 2020/2 in item 2.3: “If the vacancies for the Doctorate are not filled in the selection dealt with in this Notice, in the judgment of the Program Collegiate, there may be selection in a continuous flow regime, for admission during the academic year 2020”. Of the Vacancies: 45 (forty-five) vacancies will be offered for the Master’s course for admission in the second academic semester of 2020. Masters candidates, in all areas of concentration, and PhD candidates, must submit, at the time of registration, via email, the following documentation:
a) duly completed registration form, available on the Program’s website;  DOC

  1. b) copy of identity document and CPF, in the case of a Brazilian candidate, and copy of the passport (identification page and visa), in the case of a foreign candidate;
    c) copy of birth or marriage certificate;
    d) copy of the diploma of the undergraduate course (front and back) and, if any, of a higher degree course concluded, issued by an official or officially recognized establishment, or a document that proves that the candidate is able to graduate before the period for academic registration in the postgraduate course provided for in this Notice, with such registration conditioned to the proof of graduation completion;
    e) Academic history of the undergraduate and master’s courses, if any, with an indication of concepts and / or grades obtained and the concept and / or minimum grade required for approval;
    f) Curriculum vitae;
    g) 02 (two) letters of recommendation in the format available on the Program’s website, which can be sent directly by the professors / researchers who wrote the letters (if the candidate has previously completed a postgraduate course, one of the letters should preferably be your advisor in this course); DOC

Candidates for Doctorate and Master’s degrees in the areas of Physical and Astrophysical concentration must present, in addition to the documentation described in item 3.1, the following documents:
a) proof of the result obtained in the Unified Physics Exam, in any of its last five editions (EUF 2018-2, EUF 2-2018, EUF 1-2019, EUF 2-2019 or EUF 1-2020);
b) pre-research project, comprising a succinct text of a maximum of two pages, citing the area in which you intend to conduct your research and describing your previous professional and academic activities (possible master’s work, scientific initiations, tutoring, more disciplines courses, internships, etc.) that support the completion of your postgraduate course. In the pre-project there will be no indication of a supervisor and, if approved in the selection process, the candidate will be free to change the indicated research area after joining the Program, if deemed convenient.

Masters candidates in the area of ​​Applied and Interdisciplinary Physical Concentration must present, in addition to the documentation described in item 3.1, the following documents:
a) proof of the result obtained in the Examination in Applied and Interdisciplinary Physics (EFAI) edition 2020-1.
b) research project of a maximum of 5 (five) pages, with the exception of the cover page and the schedule. The project must contain a presentation of the problem to be studied and its relation to physics, a brief review of the state of the art and the relevant literature, the methods that will be used in the execution of the project, the necessary materials and / or infrastructure, a description of the proposal and its scientific and / or technological importance, a description of the applicant’s qualification showing how his original training will enable the project to be carried out and a project execution schedule. There cannot be a mentor in the project.

Candidates with disabilities and / or specific needs must indicate, on the application form, the special conditions necessary for their participation in this competition.

The registration approval will be announced on June 15, 2020 on the program website.

 

TEST DATES:

First step. For PhD and Masters candidates in the areas of Physical or Astrophysical Concentration: Unified Physics Exam, of an eliminatory nature (Expected completion of EUF 1-2020 on June 1, with result on June 4). The candidate’s grade will be calculated from the grade obtained in the Unified Physics Exam in any of its last five editions (EUF 2018-2, EUF 2-2018, EUF 1-2019, EUF 2-2019 or EUF 1-2020) multiplied by 50 and divided by the average exam score in the same edition. For candidates for the Masters in the area of ​​Applied and Interdisciplinary Physics concentration: Examination in Applied and Interdisciplinary Physics (EFAI), edition 2020-1, of an eliminatory character. The final grade of each candidate who participated in all stages of the selection process will be equal to his grade in the 2nd stage. In the dissemination of the final result, the candidates for the Doctorate and Master in the areas of Physical and Astrophysical concentration and the Master in the area of ​​Applied and Interdisciplinary Physical concentration will be ordered, in different lists for wide competition and self-declared black optants, by the decreasing sequence of the scores obtained , according to the distribution of vacancies, indicating the result as follows: “Approved and Classified”, “Approved, but not Classified” or “Failed”. Approved and classified candidates will be admitted, in decreasing order of the final grade determined up to, at most, the number of vacancies available in this Public Notice for the Master’s Degree and in the Public Notice for the Doctorate 2020/1.
In the event of a tie in the classification, the score attributed to the oral argument will be used as a tiebreaker criterion. If the tie persists, the grade attributed to the curriculum will be used as a tiebreaker criterion. UFMG PHYSICS PG PROGRAM REGISTRATION (1st semester of 2020): from November 4th to November 22nd, 2019.

Venue: Secretariat of the Postgraduate Program in Physics, in person or by mail (ONLY email).

Of the vacancies: 35 (Thirty-five) vacancies will be offered for the Master’s degree and 60 (sixty) vacancies for the Doctorate course for the first semester of 2020. In compliance with Resolution 02/2017, of April 04 The 2017 UFMG Teaching, Research and Extension Council, which provides for the UFMG Affirmative Action Policy, will reserve 10 Master’s and 18 Doctoral candidates for self-declared black candidates. FINAL RESULT will be disclosed on December 20, 2019. The period of appeal against the final result is 10 (ten) calendar days, pursuant to the University’s General Rules and Resolution No. 13/2010, of November 11, 2010, from the University Council of UFMG and should be done in the program secretariat in person or by proxy, provided by simple power of attorney, counted from the date of disclosure of the decision content, by its posting in public and visible place.
