Seminário Geral 27/08/2021: Looking for indirect signals of New Physics

Sobre este evento

The Standard Model of Particle Physics is considered the most successful theory of elementary particles and fundamental interactions which has been able to explain the vast majority of experimental results in particle physics over the last 50 years. However, the Standard Model is an incomplete theory because it is not able to accommodate phenomena like neutrino masses, matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe, dark matter, Higgs mass stability, the fermion masses hierarchy. On one end, the explanation of these phenomena requires the presence of New Physics in the form of new particles and new interactions. On the other hand, New Physics has remained very elusive so far and no new particles have been directly observed in particle physics experiments. For instance, the results from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) indicate that they may be too heavy to be directly produced in current collider experiments. However, New Physics particles might still leave indirect signatures in data and it is our obligation not to leave any stone unturned. In this talk I will present some studies of indirect footprints of New Physics models in the top-quark, Higgs boson and neutrino sector, focusing mainly on the LHC, future colliders and neutrino oscillation experiments.
