What is the project “The Realm of the Galaxies”

Domingos Soares,
Physics Department, UFMG, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil

"It is now possible to consider the realm of the nebulæ as a unit, and to discuss the observable region as a sample of the universe"

-- The Realm of the Nebulæ, Edwin Hubble, 1936

“The Realm of the Galaxies” is a scientific outreach project, originally written in Portuguese and financially supported by FAPEMIG (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais). The project targets primarily high school students and lay people in general, and aims to the production of essays about Extragalactic Astronomy.

The project covers the following topics:

The project has 24 essays written in Portuguese (available at this site) and in English.

Acknowledgement: I thank the financial support of FAPEMIG for the realization of the Portuguese version of The Realm of the Galaxies.
