The double galaxy CMG 49 is the 49th object of the Catalogue of Multiple Galaxies (CMG), a catalogue of double and multiple galaxies, which was determined according to selection procedures devised by T.S. van Albada. The CMG is described and analyzed by Soares (1989) in his doctoral thesis.

NGC 672 - top right
IC 1727 - botton left

Distance to NGC 672, from HII region diameters: 8.8 Mpc = 28.7 Mly (Kennicutt, 1979, ApJ 228,696)

NGC672 and IC1727, the 2 prominent galaxies in this image, are an interacting pair located in the constellation of Triangulum. IC1727 displays significant disruptions from tidal forces. The bright sliver of a galaxy towards the bottom is PGC180357. It is quite red in color and is approximately 1.2 magnitudes brighter in the red compared to blue (according to photo plates). This was taken at Chiefland during the October new moon.
