Olympics 65+

The Olympic games

Hereby I propose the creation of the Olympics 65+, that is, an olympics only for participants that are 65 years old or more.

It seems an exaggeration to consider such a range of ages aiming sportive disputes, but I present below some arguments in favor of the proposition.

I am presently 63.5 years old and have long observed people of my age range. Many have regular physical activities. They run (including marathons), swim, skateboard, surf, cycle, etc. I, for example, practice recreational and speed inline skating — twice a week (1.5 hour each) —, walks and various activities on the other days. Besides, the Olympics 65+ would be an additional encouragement, not only for the 65+, as for people of all ages to dedicate more to the sports.

Particularly, I would be interested in competitions in rowing (boat of 8), race walking and speed inline skating.

Why 65?

And not 60, 55, etc.? The reason is simple. 65 years is certainly the age in which the majority of people are retired from their professional carriers. Such people create new life routines where the sportive practice — often along with productive professional activities — is an important part of their lives. Therefore 65 years old seems to represent a adequate limit for the proposition of new challenges.
